Emailing Bin Inns
Because Bin Inn is individually owned and operated, the store owners decide what they would like to stock and are responsible for getting new products in their stores. We discussed our idea with the petone Bin Inn owner, Allan Bennett, who was interested in our concept. However the food manufacturer we are interested in stocking is in Christchurch. For a trial we would propose partnering with Bin Inns in Christchurch and K9 Natural. I have send an email to all the Bin Inns in Christchurch:
We are a group of 4th year Design students from Massey University looking into potential solutions to the wasteful packaging of wet pet food, specifically single serve cat food.
From our research we have found a large gap in the market for sustainably packaged pet food and we believe self serve frozen pet food has great potential to reduce waste.
We propose to be a distributor of K9 Natural frozen pet food to be sold in bulk freezer bins at Bin Inn stores local to the pet food producer. Customers would bring their own containers to fill from the bulk bin of frozen pellets, thus helping to combat our issue and tying into the zero waste and buying local trends.
We have visited the Lower Hutt Bin Inn store and spoke to the owner, Allen Bennett, who was interested in our concept. However the pet food manufacturer we are interested in partnering with, K9 Natural, is located in Christchurch. We therefore would be keen to partner with local Bin Inn stores to pilot the scheme before expanding to around the country.
There’s a huge gap in the market for sustainably packaged wet pet food and we believe this concept has great potential. We would love to hear from you on your thoughts on the system, if you would be interested, and if you can foresee any issues that we would need to solve.
Thank you very much for your time,
Sam, Georgia, Sarah, Wairata and Ashley."
