Cat Diets

There are many differing opinions surrounding what you should feed your cat.

While some people claim cats should eat raw diets, as is natural to them, there are many who advise against this. This is due to the risk of cats getting food poisoning and zoonotic (animal to human) disease transmission. Having said that there are many reports of people successfully having their cats on raw diets.

The first ingredient in a cat food should be meat. Cat food can be bulked up with corn, rice, soy, or grain derivatives, which isn't ideal.

Making your own cat food without consulting a nutritionist is not recommended as it's very easy to mess up the proportions of nutrients.

Preservatives are necessary in most cat foods, it is only recommended to buy preservative free canned cat food.

There is a myth that dry cat food is better for cat's teeth, however there's no evidence for this. Only dry cat food that is specifically formulated and proven to prevent teeth decay can aid your cat's teeth. On the other hand it's recommended that cats eat more wet food than dry, because it has less carbs and lots of water, which is where cats get most of their fluids.
Cats have very specific dietary requirements so if we were to develop our own cat food it would require collaborating with veterinarians and pet nutritionists to ensure the cats have the appropriate diet.
